Data mining has to do with the discovery of useful, valid, unexpected, and understandable knowledge from data. This course will provide the basic framework for conducting various data mining methodologies, including classical discriminant analyses, logistic regression analyses, decision tree, nearest neighbor analysis, neural networks, variable reduction, etc. Emphasis will be on the appropriateness of methods, data visualization, how to resolve common issues, data transformations, and use of data for generating output and interpretation, all in an attempt to give you hands-on experience and to aid you the ability for the decision making process.
